The Cultural Symbolism of Automobiles
Most of us take cars for granted. They fill our highways, parking garages, and suburbs like so many giant, shiny beetles – varied, numerous, and a bit strange. Without them, American culture would be far different than it is today. Our cars are like little second homes – they transport us to the sources of our livelihoods and home again to recover. They are at once an expense and a necessity.
Within that context, it stands to reason that cars should also function as a status symbol in American society. We can all imagine the flashy hot-rod sports car with the cherry red paint job and the custom chrome rims – a classic image of a high-status car. Brands like BMW, Lexus, Porsche, and Jaguar represent lives of glamour and luxury, and are almost impossible for the average white or blue-collar worker to afford without going into significant debt. What's the point of a hugely expensive car? They don't get better gas mileage, or have any vitally necessary amenities that other cars don't, and yet people still buy them.
In answer, one need only look to human society as a whole. Status has always been a way of gaining an exercising power. Status makes it possible to get the girl, win the contest, and generally position oneself at the top of the totem pole. Before cars displayed status, we used clothes, and houses, and possessions – just as some people still do today. The point of a status symbol is not to perform, but to convey a message: I am on top.
Some populations have built entire cultures around the car as a status symbol. The Mexican lowrider cars that became popular among young Chicano men during the 1940's and 50's is a prime example of this phenomenon. The lowriders didn't want that shiny red convertible – they wanted to define status for themselves. So classic Chevy cars were decked out in hydraulics and candy-bright paint jobs, spinning chrome rims and a low, low belly. The point was not to go fast and hard – the point was to cruise, to show off, to drive home the point of owing something other people wanted.
In the end, we are all looking for opportunities to feel and look successful. But rather than buying yourself a pair of expensive custom wheels or a new paint job, why not invest in a more practical aspect of your life? Purchase a gym membership, take your family on vacation, or open a retirement account. In the end, showing off is less important that really enjoying the things you've earned.

With a studded belt, vans flats and a band hoodie I think they look awesome. Girls what do you think (im a tall and thin guy too) - Hot??
Your thoughts.
Thanks.
also- the thing is that they are low rise - They sit really low on the hip area. Trouble is my boxers stick out when I bend over or something or they ride low at the back if my tshirt or hoodie rides up....
Should i wear them a the waist (they dont actually sit round there so impossible)?
or
below the waist and my boxers tend to stick out?
thanks
Personally I love a guy in skinny jeans, and they look good when they are low rise, just make sure your wearing nice boxers.
