All about a lens hood

Size of the lens hood does matter. The small lens hood allows the slanting black ray to hit the front element while the large lens hood blocks this ray, and prevents it from contributing to lens flare. The larger lens hood is the better choice as it blocks more non-images forming light.

       Vignetting by a lens hood is also known as mechanical vignetting. It is associated with black image corners as well as an abrupt transition from bright to black. However, a lens hood also gives rise to a gradual corner darkening just like natural and optical vignetting.

       A circular lens hood has the same rotational symmetry as the lens. It aesthetically matches the round image which is formed by a photographic lens. But the round image is not fully used as the presence of a field stop crops the image to a rectangular section. This has some important consequences for lens hood design as the optimum lens hood is not round. The accepted light cone used to illuminate the frame is pyramidal. At full aperture, going from the lens towards infinity, this cone starts out circular at the front element. Then it converts to a rectangular cross section at some distance. At small apertures, the cross section of the cone is already rectangular at the position of the front element.           

       The tulip lens hood and the rectangular lens hood are more effective than the round hood. Not only because they are longer, but also because their shape is much better matched to the pyramidal cone. It leaves no holes. A rectangular hood that is reduced to the same length as the round hood; would still be more effective.

       Even though the tulip lens hood is very effective with respect to flare prevention, it is not very compact. In order to sacrifice some effectiveness for convenience, the two longer butterfly wings may be clipped in order to yield the chopped tulip hood, which requires significantly less space in the camera bag. Some of the effectiveness can be regained by filling the two gaps that tend to arise in the clipping procedure. The chopped and capped lens hood is relatively compact and still offers an excellent protection against flare. Zoom lens hood is often provided with a chopped tulip hood that offers reasonable protection at the wide end, but it tends to be inadequate at the tail end. A lens hood is often undervalued and considered impractical because of the space they occupy in the camera bag.

For black people are there any colored contact lens photos with tan or dark skin?

I have no problem whatsoever finding photos online with caucasian or asian people with very light to pale skin wearing colored contact lenses. I know everyone's eyes are unique, but I would like to see some photos with skin colors of black people with colored contact lenses so that I can get some idea of what they may look like on me. And I know an eye doctor can show me, but that's not the point right now. So, any websites would help. Thanks!
